What About Ag Marketing?
Much has been made of the U.S. risks of falling behind China in terms of Ag Science. What about the impact on Ag Marketing?
America is dependent on its agricultural pioneers. Where would be as a country without great Americans like George Washington Carver or Dr. Norman Borlaug? The Green Revolution helped build this country, as we expanded westward and discovered new crops & lands.
That’s why the Ag industry needs to rethink the marketing plan template. What worked in the 1990s isn’t the only thing that will work today. So, what supplements it?
In the last decade, less than 2% of the American populace has sought employment as farmers. What was once a passion is starting to feel like a memory from a better time. This stark reality is starting to dawn on America’s aging Ag community. Yet, no one seems to know a solution.
Take A Cue From The Kardashians
The collected team at i3 Digital has a solution. If Apple, Nike, YouTube and the Kardashians run your kids’ lives, then it’s not that strange to take a cue from them. Why? Well, they’re all marketing to the younger generation better than the current agribusiness model.
That doesn’t mean we advocate for 15-year-old kids to start bailing hay while listening to the Joe Rogan Experience on their iPhone X. It means that Ag marketing must find the hooks that make kids prefer the iPhone over the pitchfork. Some kids might just be lazy, but what about the kids that really want to engage in Ag?
Whether it’s mathematics, science or agriculture…the burden of education remains the same. If there is no interest, then younger people will not engage. Enter marketing.
When a company like i3 Digital works with your Ag business, we’re keeping one eye in the present with the other eye to the future. That kid working in your dealership or the younger family members spending summers in the stable will eventually have their own Ag business. If they don’t, then this industry we all love will collapse.
So, when you see things about Ag marketing that you might not understand? Ask a question and reach out. While the traditional business applications will apply to you in the present, remember that we’re also talking to the younger stakeholders. A funny meme, a colorful infographic or a fun daily mention can hook in their brains.
America needs these younger farmers to be engaged and thinking about their futures. After all, the world is going to keep growing. Somebody must feed them. Let’s work together to make future farmers today!
